Popeye the sailor was born in comic strips in 1929, on January 17, to specify. In the pages of the New York Evening Journal. His name in English Pop-eye literally means "bulging eye." In the years of adventures of the sailor it has never been revealed how he lost his eye, but we do know that he is a redhead under his captain's cap. The obsession of spinach came due to a printing error, in 1930 a study was published in which an incredible amount of iron was awarded to this vegetable although it was discovered that it was a misplaced comma quickly, the authorities did not share this information until 30 years later. The consumption of spinach grew so much that the town of Crystal City in Texas, specialized in its production, erected a statue of the character, but it is not the only one in the USA there are up to seven statues and busts of the character.
The legend and a study by Dana Larsen tell us that the sailor consumes marijuana, since in the 20s and 30s the word "spinach" was used as a name for this substance. One of the examples would be the song "The Spinach Song".
