Description

La Pilota Valenciana is the evolution of the ball games introduced by the Roman Empire in the Iberian Peninsula. In 1391 a group that prohibits its practice in the street:

"... Because on the occasion of the game (ball) various blasphemies were said in offense of Our Lord God and the saints and various insults of word and deed to the Walking and standing people through the various streets and squares of the city have once again established and forbidden that any private or strange person of any condition or law of ten or more years cannot play within the walls of said city (Valencia) the game of ball under penalty of twenty gold morabatins for each time he did it ... "

This prohibition did not affect the then Kingdom of Valencia because in the middle of the 16th century there were already 13 trinquets only in the capital. Until the middle of the 20th century, the Pilota Valenciana had great popularity and with renowned figures such as Roquet de Penàguila, Bandera, Melero, Bota, el Nene, el Paler, el Pilotero or Carlitos el Pilotari de Faura. Today, and after the revitalization of figures such as Genovés (Franciasco Cabanes), all piloting fans are confident in the good future of this discipline.
